Abl mix by lawrencescaduto

MADE: 2007.03.18

abrooklynlife.com was semi-popular when I first started dating the bloggers sister. At the time they had a semi-popular weekly DJ mix feature.

I created this mix of semi-popular tunes and never sent it to them. I mentioned my desire to my future wife which she soon passed to them via casual conversation. The response was something like, “we can’t do popular stuff so we don’t get sued”.

Of course I was immediately offended. How dare they shut me out like that! They assume I won’t be picking the most underground of boring beat based tunes. This was my comeback, “You guys like shitty music!”. Of course I didn’t say that outloud.

Now I see where they are coming from. I did pick lots of popular tunes. (reminder: they never heard this mix and this was done after the response was filtered back to me).

But still… it’s a good mix (mine).

Maybe they knew me better than myself.

In this mix:

hotchip
robyn
kelis
rick ross – hustlin’
camera obscura
Pete Townsend – rough boys
The Tammys – Egyptian Shumba <-what the B52′s Kate Pierson did when she was in diapers.
La Lupe <-insanity
Culture – Alone in the wilderness <-sad concept of a tune but set to happyish chords
Klaxons – It’s not over <-equally a bad and good band name. it looks good in type but the reference is too referencey
Fela Kuti – Truth don die
M.I.A – Paper Planes
Liars – Freak Out
hallelujah chicken run band <- super tight playing even that makes outta tune guitar a treat
weezer – my name is jonas
nirvana – drain you <-oh the memories of being in the boot of a Subaru hatch back driven by carlos in high school. “hey scaduto. you need to turn around”. apparently my weight distribution made the car ride something affected.
smashing pumpkins – cherub rock <- you know something is well recorded when you have to take your headphones off to make sure it’s not coming through your main speakers. I speak truths here people.
Wu-Tang/ODB – Shame on a Nigga <- As a 16 year old washing dishes at Boston Chicken (remember before they hit the “market”?) I rocked this record and the first 4 Zeps constantly on the cassette walkmans.
A Tribe Called Quest – Check the Rhyme <- Remember when we used to rock the fly routines on your cousins block? A staple from friday night videos. Anyone who grew up in the tri-state area remembers this.
Pharcyde – She keeps… do i need to finish the title?

My first attempt at doing beat matching mixes.

Listening back an hour later…. man this is pretty good! I picked stuff that worked pretty well note wise.  But more importantly, these are some damn good tunes.
