So on last week’s episode of “Ace on the House” Adam Carolla asked for covers from the soundtrack of Taboo 2, the classic 1982 adult film starring Kay Parker. Oh, yeah, and Ron Jeremy part makes an appearance it too.

I listened to the original song ( link) and noticed it had that ’70s blues sorta boogie sound. And then it hit me that I could do it in the style of Harry Nilsson’s “Jump into the Fire.” And thus a podcast song was born.

These were all made with Abelton live since I switched over from Acid. So far I’m digging it. I am not missing the russian roulette that working in Acid was. You never knew when it would crash a complex project making it unopenable. Sometime loosing months of work.

Never gonna go back to that again.

abrooklynlife.com was semi-popular when I first started dating the bloggers sister. At the time they had a semi-popular weekly DJ mix feature.

I created this mix of semi-popular tunes and never sent it to them. I mentioned my desire to my future wife which she soon passed to them via casual conversation. The response was something like, “we can’t do popular stuff so we don’t get sued”.

Of course I was immediately offended. How dare they shut me out like that! They assume I won’t be picking the most underground of boring beat based tunes. This was my comeback, “You guys like shitty music!”. Of course I didn’t say that outloud.

Now I see where they are coming from. I did pick lots of popular tunes. (reminder: they never heard this mix and this was done after the response was filtered back to me).

But still… it’s a good mix (mine).

Maybe they knew me better than myself.

A Tribe Called Quest – Check the Rhyme <- Remember when we used to rock the fly routines on your cousins block? A staple from friday night videos. Anyone who grew up in the tri-state area remembers this.

Listening back an hour later…. man this is pretty good! I picked stuff that worked pretty well note wise.  But more importantly, these are some damn good tunes.

We should define crack music.

Crack Music is a song that you can not stop listening to over and over again in a reasonably defined period of time. Before the song ends, you might hit that intro one last time (as you tell yourself) just to get right.

It’s the kind of song that you go back to for the same high over and over again. And, as all highs eventually do… disappoints you.

In the interest of being 12 step about it, there should be some shame/regret/embarrassment to your Crack Music.

I realize that the audience that understands my point is probably somewhat limited in their genetic make up. I’m talking to the obsessives out there. The rehabers or close to it. Those with a deep inner monologue.

My shame comes from disowning the music that first drove me: classic rock.

I’ve noticed in recent months that if I had some disproportionate amount of animosity towards someone it’s probably because of some inner self dislike i have towards myself.

I came across a tape with the words “Get Up Kids, Sept ’99″ on it. After further review I have come to the conclusion that it’s a bootleg show from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from September 1999 that I most likely went to.

I thought it would be fun to post a torrent of it and a clip to Youtube.

I got the idea to share this from http://getupkidsarchive.blogspot.com/ who knew people still cared about them? Clearly I did the night I found myself googling whilst listening to all of my old emo (post and pre) records. Too bad I don’t have a Braid bootleg. That would make me uber-alt.

At the end of the tape there’s also some live stuff from Hot Water Music and Jimmy Eat World.
